Prevention

Chasing cars is one of the favorite leisure of dogs.  When the owner takes his dog for a walk, the dog must wear a collar and a leash.  This is to control the dog when it has urges to run after a passing car.  Dogs should not be allowed to run freely outdoors especially when it has not been trained to behave because it may endanger them when they come near the road.  It can also cause commotion in the streets when the dog begins chasing a person down the road.  It can cause accidents and the person might get hurt trying to escape the dog or worse the dog may bite or nip at the person.  Allowing it to chase after whatever it fancies may create an aggressive behavior in the dog.  Dog owners would not want this behavior to come to their house pet.  It is important for every responsible owner to help stop dog chasing by having their pet trained whether by themselves or by professional trainers.

While dog chasing is not allowed outdoors, it must not be tolerated inside the house, too.  The rule on dog chasing must be consistent whenever it may be.  Playing with the dog should not include chasing each other.  It can create aggression in the dog and may exhibit this behavior in front of other people.  The way to stop dog chasing during playtime is to ignore the dog whenever it starts to play in this manner.  The owner should turn his back and refuse to give the dog attention so as not to reinforce its chasing behavior.  When the dog starts to calm down, that is the time the owner attend to the dog and give praises.  Another way to stop dog chasing is to teach the dog tricks such as sit and lie down.  When the dog wants to play chase, tell it to sit.  When the dog follows the instruction given, give praises and attention or give some doggie treats to positively reinforce its good behavior.
